It was good fortune to have Tom Bailey reach out and request an interview. Mr. Bailey was incredibly generous, presenting an opportunity to articulate some of the ideas and intentions behind the project. It eventually resulted in the sign finding its perfect home while remaining accessible to the community of Memphis at large.
There is a magical museum in Memphis that is has made its mission the preservation, promotion, and advancement of the art and craft of fine metalwork. This is achieved through exhibitions, collections, studio practice, and community education and engagement. They have made a permanent home for the Memphis sign on their grounds, overlooking the Mississippi River.
It is with an overwhelming sense of joy that I am able to announce there are five signs in Florida made possible due to the generosity of O, Miami and the mind hive that operates it. I am beyond grateful for the opportunity to participate in their 10th Annual Poetry Festival. The purpose of which is to offer every citizen of Miami-Dade County the opportunity to interact with a poem and consider their relationship to language. It is a great honor to have an image of one of the signs in a textbook about ethics in the media. Professor Roberts is working on the second edition of this textbook…an important subject, one near and dear.
Susan Schwartz and Virginia Broersma are the artists spearheading this project to provide free, artist-centric contracts to artists so we can advocate for better business practices within the art world. I am grateful to them for helping me to think about my work from a new perspective.
“Temporal Experiments” is an interdisciplinary research group doing exciting and contemplative work regarding cognition and aesthetics. I am grateful to be included in this meditation on the human experience.
Danny Freedman is a freelance author that has written on subjects ranging from Louis Armstrong’s last recording to a photographer’s obsession with sunrise. His curiosity of the world is a comfort to the soul. His tenacity to write an article on the project helped me find closure to the installation.
